Veterans Corner on Highway 9

Helping Hands
Kris Molsknes with his daughters, Nicole and Aubrey who is only 12 weeks old, came by to see us. He was needing help. Due to an Army training accident he is unable to work and his wife has recently had their health benefits reduced at work. Jerry Baxter of Veterans Corner was able to provide him with some immediate help with groceries and utilities. The ODVA helped him apply for a grant as well as finding out why he had been denied benefits from the VA.
Bruce Goodin, another Army veteran, is a paraplegic. He uses a special camera with retina recognition to type. Someone stole his camera so Veterans Corner and VFW Post 4890 are working together to replace it for him.
Thank you very much for your generous donations. They make it possible for us to provide this much needed help. That's what we're here for, "Veterans helping Veterans".

OPEN HOURS
Every week we have more and more veterans and their surviving spouses taking advantage of our extended hours. We have claims writers available Monday thru Wednesday from 7:00am until 11:00pm each day. Our big day with all the volunteers is on Thursdays from 7:00 until 1:00.

Surviving Spouses
Please call Betty Bromlow (405) 623-4565 or Patti Hanks (405) 387-2551 if you are a surviving spouse. They will help you with the documents you need to bring and they will make sure someone will be there to help you on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. They will always be here on Thursdays but please call one of them anyway so they can help you be better prepared.
Transportation
Our Drivers have three vans available for any veteran who needs a ride to a medical appointment. Please give one of them a call. They are: Greg Kelsch (405) 255-2208. Richard Judd (405) 573-0926 or Sam Knight   (405) 808-5096. They will be glad to take you when or where you need to go.

It is such a blessing for me to be able to volunteer at Veterans Corner. There is a real feeling of peace here in your new building. Perhaps it's because of the Chapel with the beautiful stained glass of Jesus with outstretched arms and George Washington kneeling by the snow to pray over the troops at Valley Forge. It could be because we now have a home with a lot more space. Whatever it is, it's amazing. I competed the paperwork for a veteran I helped this past Thursday and when I took it over to the quality department they asked if I wanted the American Legion, the VFW or the ODVA to represent the veteran in Muskogee. Never before have we had such a spirit of cooperation. If you haven't been here please come by to see us. We located 2 miles west of I-35 on the north side of Highway 9.
If you would like to volunteer we can sure use your help. We now have 85 volunteers and with your help we will be able to expand our services to our veterans and their families.
